| 7a. Biodiversity conservation and sustainable fisheries management of salmonids |
| Salmonid populations (Family SALMONIDAE) face increasing pressures from a multitude of human impacts, including global warming and climate change risks, over-fishing, exotic species spread, habitat loss, negative effects of aquaculture and hatchery programs, and higher levels of recreational fishing. In this sub-session, we will outline issues of global warming and climate change, risk and benefit of aquaculture and hatchery programs, the influence of exotic species on native species and ecosystems in the freshwater environment, anthropogenic habitat change, and habitat rehabilitation for salmonid fishes. We will then address the framework of sustainable fisheries management and biodiversity conservation based on the aquatic ecosystem approach. |
