Technical Program

6. Freshwater, Coastal and Marine Environments
6d. Environmental improvement: restoration and new creation
Successful fisheries are based on sound ecosystems. Recently, however, coastal ecosystems have been threatened due to development in coastal zones and urbanization. Keeping coastal ecosystems healthy requires clear definition of coastal ecosystem function and development of criteria to evaluate healthy coastal ecosystems. Furthermore, developments of bioremediation techniques are required to restore the lost environments. In addition, creation technique of artificial habitat will be necessary to recover coastal habitats. In this session, methods of evaluating the coastal environments, indicators of coastal environmental health, technologies for the environmental restoration and artificial habitat will be discussed.
