Technical Program

1. Fisheries and Fish Biology
1i. Bio-logging science
Bio-logging Science is an important technique for understanding the diving behavior of aquatic animals and their environmental condition which marine animals utilize. Bio-logging system is a relatively new observation system in the ocean as compared to observation system done by research vessel and through satellites. Knowledge obtained through bio-logging systems is very useful for improving effective conservation of marine ecosystem and marine biodiversity. In this sub-session we focus on the following main items of bio-logging systems; (1) diving behavior of aquatic animals (whales, seals, sea turtles, fishes, sea birds, etc.), (2) social behavior of aquatic animals, (3) physiological characteristics of the aquatic animals, (4) bio-mechanics of aquatic animals, (5) elucidation of environmental condition in the marine ecosystem, (6) advances in devices and bio-logging systems, (7) databases of biological oceanographic information, (8) establishment of an international network of "Bio-logging Science", (9) the management and conservation of marine ecosystems, and (10) promotion of scientific activities of young scientists in bio-logging systems.
