| 1a. New technologies in fisheries survey |
| The direct observation of marine animals is important in understanding fish behavior and ultimately fisheries. Several innovative technologies for observing marine animals have been developed in the last decade. Tools such as multi-sensor remote sensing, quantitative echo-sounder, three dimensional sonar, underwater acoustic camera, remote operated vehicle (ROV), autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), archival tags, and marine GIS software have been important in advancing our understanding of fisheries resources. This sub-session discusses new technologies and their applications for marine fisheries research. |
